Kurt Snyder
Yesterday my 95 R1100RSL would not start. The engine cranked over normally but did not fire. I tried 5-6 times over a period of 1-2 minutes then it started. I did notice the oil temp guage moving up and down (cold engine) during the starting attempts. The gas tank was full and the gas guage did not move. The tach did not move during the attempts. I did not note if the fuel pump was running during the attempts but I remember hearing it when the bike started. The bike ran fine when parked the day before and runs great now. Does the oil temp guage indicate a specific problem? Everything on the bike functioned properly before this incident and since then. Bike history- 95 R1100RSL, 133xxx miles, HES replaced at 80000 miles with new BMW part. Coil, wires and injectors replaced last year. Any ideas as to what to look for? Thanks, Kurt Link to comment
philbytx
Could well be a wiring harness issue. They sometimes are too tight around the headstock bundle. Link to comment
idontcheckit
Hey my '99 R1100RT started doing this a few weeks ago. Probably happened 4 times now. I can make my start by removing the fuse #5 and counting to 10. Then the Temp guage will read as normal (cold on a cold start) and the engine will fire off just fine. Did you ever find out the problem your's was having? Link to comment
biometrics
I think you have a "loose" connection somewhere... possibly a ground strap... strip off the tupperware and check ALL the connections in the harness... clean them as you go, and put some of that automotive electrical connection type grease on them before you put them back together. idontcheckit
Yeah I had all the plastic off last Friday but nothing jumped out at me. Cleaning terminals and connections as I go is probably my best bet. Link to comment
