Gearshift Lever Position

I find the gearshift lever position on my 2011 R1200RT to be to low making it difficult for me to up shift. There is some (very little) adjustment available by rotating the end of the shift lever. I have looked at the maintenance DVD and it appears (at least to me) to show the side of a riding boot used to shift. Does this make any sense? If not, is there another solution?

I just moved mine down to accommodate the peg lowering kit that I installed.

Not as easy as the 05-09s but still a 15 minute job.

I use the side of my boot

I've been riding with Aerostich Touring Combat Lite boots since 2006, and they have a big, stiff toe box, with a fairly prominent ridge to the sole around the perimeter. The boot toe is too big to fit easily under the shifter (even adjusted as high as I can get it), but hooking the edge of the sole on the shifter works just fine for upshifts.

If you can not get enough adjustment with lock nuts and threaded rod (#2) try removing part #1 from the shift shaft and rotate it too the desired position then fine tune the adjuster rod to suit.

Morning Steve

I have always used the side of my boot to UP- shift the newer RT’s. The top of the extended sole seems to work just fine. Now on the down shift I use the bottom of the boot sole. Just too much foot movement to try and get the top of my riding boot under the lever to up shift.

In any case if you want to try a different lever position as mentioned above you can do minor re-positions with the connecting link length- or do major by moving the shift FOOT lever on it’s splined shaft. You could move the short trans lever on it’s splines but that will change the geometry of the pivots to link and the farther you move them form right angles the more asymmetrical the shifting will become.

Just move the lever one spline on the shaft. I had mine done before I picked it up from the dealer after a test ride. Didn't take them long.
