DaveWestModesto
I replaced my battery this morning after having to jump start my R1150GS. Bike ran fine after jumpstart, but old battery didn't have power to restart the bike after stopping at a store. I installed new batter in parking lot. After getting bike started it was only running on the right cylinder. I tried wiggling fuel lines, electrical connections, pulled left plug wire and wasn't getting spark. Disconnected wire from coil....replugged it in....started getting spark....tried to leave on a shop ride and was back to one cylinder. Something must have been pinched or damaged during tank removal/battery installation. Should I start with changing the plug wires? Link to comment
DaveWestModesto
Missed the Cycle Specialties shop ride to Yosemite because of whatever I screwed up. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks, Dave Link to comment
Haynes
Just some simple things: Check that the fuel injector plugs are both connected. Check that you haven't unseated one of the throttle cables. Link to comment
Jim Moore
One of your throttle cables has come ut of it's cup down by the throttle body. Five-second fix. Link to comment
dirtrider
Morning Dave As mentioned above check the throttle cable seating at the TB furrel (cable probably sitting in the edge of the furrel) . Usually at the right throttle body as a problem at the left usually just jacks the idle speed up but doesn’t kill a cylinder. Did you do a TPS relearn after installing the new battery? (it’s in your riders manual) If checking the throttle cables doesn’t make it run right then do a TPS re-learn—To do that - remove the #5 (Motronic) fuse for about 30 seconds, then re-install the fuse, then turn the key on (do not start the engine), then fully open & close the throttle twice (choke must be off). That is all there is to it. Link to comment
DaveWestModesto
Thanks to dirtrider, Jim and Haynes for the info. I will try all of your suggestions. I checked the plugs for the injectors at the shop....I will recheck them and the throttle cables. I didn't to a TPS relearn after installing the battery. I don't remember doing the last time I installed a battery either through.....that was a couple years ago. The bike hasn't been getting ridden. Baby is now 4 years old, and I deliver her to daycare every day, so I can't use my bike for my commute. I am hoping to get back out on the bike more, it will become my commute vehicle again when she goes to kindergarten in another year. Thanks for all the advice, Dave Link to comment
DaveWestModesto
There was a GS coil and wires for sale on ebay...I bought it last night just in case that was the problem. If the ideas of the members here are correct, I now have a spare coil and plug wire set...lol. Link to comment
DaveWestModesto
Thanks for the help guys. I went out after work today....guess what. The cable on the right throttle body was up out of the cup. I popped it in, and the bike is idling correctly. The coil and wires I bought on ebay will be put away as spares for a rainy day. Ride Safe, Dave Link to comment
