R1100RT How to adjust Shifting Lever on Tranny

Good Day all,

I am in the process of reassembling my RT1100 with a 'looks like new' fixed tranny (Thanks Bruno). I can't find in my maintenance manual how to adjust the shifting lever mechanism on the gear selector shaft of the tranny. What I notice when I shift up thru the gears with the left footrest/gearshift installed is that the gear indicator on the RID goes 1,N,2, , ,5. Can't get 3 or 4 on the way 'up', but can see them when I downshift from 5...

I"m a bit perplexed with this issue, and suspect the gearshift mechanism is not pushing the gears all the way into position, perhaps fooling the gear indicator switch on the back of the tranny.

Suggestions/instructions would be appreciated, thanks all !

The first thing is the set up of the lever out of the engind (see attached picture), then you can adjust the rose joint linkage to the foot lever itself.

Morning MLand

Up Shift the bike by hand looking for the shift lever to be contacting the top of the slot in the side plate (maybe the slot is limiting up travel) . If it hits either adjust the linkage (link) so it doesn’t contact the top of slot or move the splined lever on the trans shift shaft to lower the foot lever slightly.

Thanks Andy, the setup for the linkage on the 96 RT is somewhat different that what was pictured in your post, there is a much shorter 'stub' attached to the splined portion of the linkage. But from looking at the diagram you have sent, I realized the angle of the attachment on the tranny and distance to the lever makes much of a difference, and most likely the cause of my issue. I have to check the geometry of it once I get the foot rest assembly off. Thanks !

Good Day Dirtrider, I've check on this and what you have described below is exactly what is happening, the side plate is limiting 'up' travel. Between your post and AndyS, I think I understand the problem and what is required to fix it once I can get back to the bike.

Many thanks, the help is much appreciated.

Cheerz !

Hi Mland,

Just to confirm that the measurement for the R1100RT is the same as indicated in AndyS's post above.

The R1100RT also has a two position adjustment at the fulcrum of the gear lever. I believe (from memory) this may have been discontinued on the R1150RT??
