Stop Hunger

Done.

At a time when a huge number of Americans are out of work, hunger is a very real problem throughout our nation. I live in one of the most affluent large cities in the United States, and our local food pantry is being stretched to the limits of its capabilities.

One thing I'd note for all here is that food donations are always welcome, but through the purchasing power of buying consortiums and through tapping into heavily discounted foods available through the federal government, every dollar in cash donations permits a well-run food pantry to buy about $10 worth of groceries. If you're fortunate enough to be employed, now is a good time to think of your neighbors and their children, who may be going hungry.

Another thing to consider, food banks are even more in need during the summer months because families don't have the benefit of their children having meals at school. We all think of this during December, what with the Holidays and all, but it's a year-round need.

So true. Thanks for the reminder.
