Bullett
My mechanic told me the case on the (matching numbers) engine on the R26 was not salvageable. I decided to take the engine apart to see what was in there. No innards, really, but the cylinder head seems to be pretty darn well attached to the bottom end of the engine. Looks like there is some corrosion. Does this need to be heated to get the cylinder head off? Link to comment
OoPEZoO
You might want to try some penatrating oil (liquid wrench, WD40), time, and then heat. Also, rubber mallets are your friend. Link to comment
StuGotz
Are you talking about the head, or the barrel? MB> Link to comment
Bullett
Umm, the barrel. I should take a picture. Also, do the pushrod tubes need to come off first? Link to comment
elkroeger
I'm sure he's a nice guy, but I'd change mechanics. That thing looks fine to me. You just need a carb. Fire it up! ;-) Link to comment

StuGotz
Unscrew 'em and get 'em outta the way. Now the fun part. Did ya use some penetrant on the barrel studs and rusted nuts? I use Kroil, available at auto parts house. Let it sit a day or so, after a few applications. Let the bike/motor sit in the sun just before you wanna remove the barrel. Rubber mallet and hit the fins carefully "square" on 4 sides... I mean give the barrel a good rap on all sides. I can't express enough by hitting it square. If ya don't, you'll lose fins. If this is a keeper, that is the cylinder is good and not scored, be very careful. Those are hard to come by. Good luck. MB> Link to comment
Bullett
I left it out in the sun most of the day, then used some Maple blocks and pounded the cylinder off the engine case. This thing, the manual calls it a "tappet," appears to be permanently adhered to the inside of the tube. From the other end: The inside surface of the cylinder is pretty rusty. Link to comment
