Rocer
Cool idea. Now we need an auto mft. to incorporate steering wheel and controls that flip as well. It's been done in some small airplanes. Link to comment
Paul Mihalka
Has been done before, just with simple road markings and barriers. Up to WWII Hungary was driving on the left. Germany was driving on the right. Toward the end of the war there was massive driving through Hungary by the German army. There were horrific accidents. So Hungary switched on short notice to drive on the right. Problem was that the city of Budapest could not switch over because of the layout of tram rails, electric lines, wiring for the trolley buses. So at the edge of town there were switch-over stations controlled by police where drivers going in or out had to switch sides. It was not much of a problem as the army did not drive much through town and most private vehicles were already confiscated for use by the Hungarian army. Link to comment
Joe Frickin' Friday
Neat, but the article's title used the word "ingenious," implying that only one person in a bazillion could have thought it up. Which seems a bit of a reach. Link to comment
AZKomet
Really??? I did not know that? Of course not to imply I know much of anything. I watch the Military and History channels and find all kinds of war facts that astonish me. Link to comment
motoguy128
doesn't seem all that ingenious ot me either. It's not different than many conventional exit and overpass/underpass configurations, namely those going to or from one-way streets. You could have done the same thing for a lot less money it seems on land... and had a shorter overall bridge length. Another simple solution is to have a divided highway with an traffic light controlled intersection. You simply seperate traffic by 30 yards or so before the intersection and have them rejoin at an angle so it's no different than 2 one-way streets meeting. Link to comment
upflying
Here is how Sweden did the switch in 1967. Seems simple enough. http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/history/driving_on_right.shtml Link to comment
