Buying Wine/Beer/Liquor Near Topaz Lake

As a community service I thought I'd pass along the info I got from SageRider in response to my question about where we might get some decent wine for Topaz Lake.

He said Battle Born Wine (in Gardnerville NV) is definitely the best wine store in the area. It's located on the west side of US395 and has a great selection and reasonable prices. Note that it's closed Sunday and Monday.

Best alternate sources are (from north to south):

1 Aloha Liquors (In Carson City NV, east side of US395. http://www.alohadiscountwineandliquors.com/);

2) Costco. (membership store) (One block west of US395. turn right at Bodines Casino);

3) Trader Joe's (In Walmart center on west side of US395 at the south end of Carson City);

4) Cost Plus World Market (next shopping center south, also on west side).

If you are only interested in wine, his choice would be Battle Born then Aloha. If interested in booze in addition to wine, then Aloha.

i like wine but, i like a good dark ale micro brew even more, and knowing the HannaBONe is coming we need to stock up,

So pray tell us foreigners what great microbrews are available locally that need to be appreciated?

I'm sure those in the know will chime in, but there's one mentioned at the link below that's from Sparks (just outside Reno). I see on their website that they have beer to go. Maybe you'll want to make a beer run. Sparks is about 65 miles north of Topaz Lake. It's also where Sierra BMW is located.

The Slam Dunkel is a Bavarian style dark beer for the hardiest of micro brew drinkers. The Slam Dunkel lives up to its quest of competing with the best Bavarian brews with its special mixture of Perle, Tettnang and Hallertau hops. The brew has a smooth flavor without the nasty aftertaste. The Great Basin Brewing Company is located in Sparks at 846 Victorian Avenue, Sparks, Nevada.

Don't know what, if any, the Lodge might have on tap.

FYI, Topaz Lodge has two bars. One is open 24/7. The other is open when the Steak House is open, and serves upper end products.

Also, there is a small mini mart tied to the gas station on site that also has beverages for sale.

As this is my first UnRally, I am in awe of the level of planning, thoroughness and detail that you guys consider, I think I am going to have to bring my PDA just to keep me on top of the options and activities.....;-)

I can promise you there will be NO calls for Bud or Bud Lite from me... but alas, transport of my golden nectar is out of the question.

In the land of California, or nearby, surely there are some decent brews.

Tennessee or Kentucky sour mash is an entirely different proposition.

Now the romp to try some micro's that sANTA & MBElectroChickMagnet bring up does sound like the call.

Perhaps - after an afternoon romp to the hinterlands of Cali...we might "stop and taste" @ one of these fine establishments. Sound like a plan, laddy's??
