Seems to me there will be a good bit of "traffic" on Hwy 50, (which is supposed to be lonely), on Sunday July 11th.

There are not that many lodging/eating options on the route... just wondering who is crossing?

Susie and I are holding reservations at the Bristlecone Motel in Ely... I hear the Mexican restaurant next door is supposed to be good.

Joyce and I will be 6 blocks south of you at the La Quinta. We'll be there two nights, then take 50 across on Sunday.

Anyone else?

You're spending TWO nights in Ely? The town must have some charms I've missed on my trips through there.

My friend and I will be spending Saturday night in Ely, at the Bristlecone. Off to Topaz Lake on the Sunday.

If you need to kill a day you might consider spending it in the SLC area. We would be happy to provide several great day rides to choose from and the accommodations on Saturday night ain't bad either...

Plus crossing to Ely and beyond with at least two bikes would be fun.

Where are you coming from to get here?

We have a day to kill. Going to take a day trip to Great Basin.
Great Basin is worth visiting as is the railway museum in Ely and you might still be able to take a train ride up to the copper mine (anybody know?) Breakfast at the Bristlecone (or maybe an attached restaurant) has always been good. There's the casinos too if that interests you, I watched a guy win about $1,000 on a penny slot machine in one of them - it actually tried to feed out the pennies! Boney and Richard can recommend bars, they tried them all one night, they may not remember much of course.

Mrs. Caddis and I will likely be going through Nevada around then. But we are still trying to learn our limits on how far we can reasonably ride under different conditions. So we were going to "play it by ear" in terms of where we would stop each day.

Does that sound like a bad idea? It sure doesn't look like there are many places to stop, or get gas for that matter, along Route 50. If we roll into Ely or Eureka on Friday or Saturday evening without a hotel reservation, do you think we are likely to be out of luck finding a place to stay?

Under normal circumstances, yes.

With the economy down, you might be OK.

'Just made reservations in Ely at the Bristlecone Motel for the 11th and rooms were still available, and very reasonable.

Another very clean, affordable Mom&Pop motel in Ely: Rustic Inn , on the main drag across from the old Theatre. Updated large rooms, quiet, microwave, frige, cable. $40.

May or may not see some of you all. I'm going through there on either on Thursday or Friday, headed to Carson City to visit a friend for the weekend prior to heading down to Topaz Lake on Monday. Not sure if I'll stay there or just pass through, depends on how the trip progresses, I sort of like to keep my schedule flexible depending on what the weather is, how much time I spend visiting museums, what roads I end up taking etc! I've been known to wander a little off course if I run into something that looks promising, but, I'm definitely riding RT50 across NV though.
