Did BMW factory spec change the amount and viscosity of final drive oil?

I thought I read here that BMW changed the amount and viscosity of the final drive oil to be used because of all the failures. I am looking for the specs for a 2007 GSA.

New spec calls for 180ml.fill.This current spec.includes your GSA.

It is convenient that this is just at the lower thread level on the plug located about 9:00 on the FD.

You will get varying replies on viscosity, think the factory

still says 75-90,but lots of folks, including dealers are using 75-140 without any ill effects over thousands of miles.

If it's still under warranty I'd use BMW 75-90. Better safe than sorry. My 07 FD dumped, twice, 12K and 35K. Used BMW oil and was covered.

At the risk of sounding a little harsh, I'd say the only dealers using 75W140 in customers' final drives are ones who are either too lazy, or perhaps too stupid, to use what BMW specifies which is Castrol SAF-XO (a 75W90 synthetic GL-5 gear oil). Where the Castrol product is not readily available (read U.S. dealers), they have a BMW-branded 75W90. Given the choice between what a dealer recommends and what BMW specifies, I'll side with the manufacturer on this one.

To answer the original question, BMW recently changed the fluid volume for an oil change in the FD to 180ml as already pointed out above. They did not change the recommended fluid at that time.
