philbytx
Deb and I are UT "virgins" and really looking forward to our stay in Torrey for 4 nights before heading out to the Un. Would appreciate some (roughly!) 6 to 8 hr (with stops for piccies and grub!) round trip suggestions for us, or a couple of 3 to 4 hr runs that we could squeeze into a day. We are up for any suggestions really, remembering will be two-up, so no dirt roads involved please ! Link to comment
EffBee
Coming up from Texas, you've got to go up UT-95 from Blanding to Hanksville. Commonly referred to as "Planet Utah" this road (once you get about 45 mile out of Blanding) has the deepest, darkest red sandstone strata in the state. Blanding to Hanksville is about 3 hours. To Torrey is another 50 miles. From Torrey, take UT-12 down to Bryce Canyon NP. Go in for a visit if you want, it's definitely one of a kind. Then go back to Torrey the same way. There are a couple of ways to make it into a loop, but the western half of each loop isn't 1/4th as good as the eastern half. Down and back is about 200 miles. Plan on spending at least 3-4 hours in Bryce Canyon NP. Torrey is located on UT-24. Take it west to the turn-off for Fremont (it's an easy-to-miss right turn half way between Lyman and Loa). Follow it and it becomes UT-72 (Sweeper Madness). At about the 6-mile mark, there's an easy-to-miss left that takes you to Fish Lake. Note its location. You'll want to take it on the way back. Ride UT-72 until the tar snakes show up. Can't miss the change from chep seal to old asphalt with tar snakes. Just turn around there. No need to go the last 6 miles to the end. On your way back, turn right to Fish Lake. Follow it all the way until the road drops you off at a T intersection with UT-24. You're about 35 miles from Torrey. Go left through Loa, Lyman and Bicknell to Torrey. Total trip is about 150 mi. That's three. Link to comment
** Chris **
I will second the 95 and UT-12 routes. I did those a couple weeks ago, they were great. A great place to take some photos is the Burr Trail off of UT-12. I understand that it turns to dirt somewhere along the way, but it is a great place to take some photos! The light will be different on the way back so be prepared to stop both ways. Here is a link to some images I captured while down there for Spring Torrey; Spring Torrey Link to comment
Marty Hill
It turns to dirt after the beautiful red rocks/till then nice pavement/a great side trip at the 90 degree turn in boulder. Link to comment

There appears to be an issue with Texans going to Torrey of late...."just saying" I also would make sure you have dinner at the Rim Rock at Sunset one night. It is a grand experience and if Karma is on your side they will have Currey Carrot Soup! Link to comment

But, for the most part, I stayed on pavement. I also would make sure you have dinner at the Rim Rock at Sunset one night. It is a grand experience and if Karma is on your side they will have Currey Carrot Soup! I had dinner at the Rim Rock, always after sunset. Luckily, I missed the Carrot Soup both times! Once carrots are cooked, they become fodder for the hogs! Link to comment

She's not up to riding all the way at the moment, so I'm trying to keep the trip as easy and as fun for her as I can. The good news is that she LOOOOOVES sweepers ! Link to comment

Bob Palin
Where are most people staying, is there a base? Looking forward to meeting y'all John The base is the Chuckwagon in Torrey, probably all booked up by now but they keep a waiting list and it is usually filled. I have a page of lodging information here and there is a countdown Fall weather is usually drier than spring though this spring was excellent, apart from a little wind... Link to comment
