My ride to Suches

Recommended Posts

ClearwaterBMW

Our long-awaited 1600 mile, 4-day trip to Suches, Georgia began last Thursday at 0500 at a local gas station. From left to right:

Dieter, Hans, Wolfgang, and Werner (sounds like a trip in Germany…. No?)

Our first stop was at Shoney’s (I always LOVE beginning a vacation with an all-you-can-eat breakfast !)

The rains came soon after… time to don the raingear

We finally arrived at the T.W.O. in Suches

Werner immediately complained of a rash from his 620 miles superslab journey

This was the scene outside the next morning:

We made our way to Blood Mountain, where Wolfgang said that he was so cold that he had to warm his butt on my GS’s engine

At this point, Hans wanted everyone to know that even K1200’s can get dirty

your illustrious (but, overweight… shouldn’t wear RED) author

and his DOUBLE-GPS layout on the GS:

Jeff comes a day late with his recenty-acquired Ducati 900 Final Edition

This was actually my first time at the Gap

it really isn’t (of course) the best place to ride… too many other people/many nicer and less-populated roads in that area.

Back at the T.W.O., the owner, Britt, was taking orders for dinner. I was blown away by the quality of food at the place… really, beyond my expectations.

This was, unfortunately, the closest I got to the BMW Rally at Shelbyville, Tennessee (a picture of a picture on someone else’s camera who went)

all in all, a wonderful trip

great riding/sorry not more exciting pictures

hey… Werner (who was from South African) even got to try a cobbler for the first time

Had your buddies been to T.W.O. before? I met a bunch of German guys from Florida up there a while ago. A couple of them sure look familiar.

Wolfgang rides a 2005 R1200RT

Werner has a 2002 R1150RT

and.... Dieter just bought a 2004 R1150RT

Greg,

That was a really nice ride report. Thanks.

We were up their 2 months ago. Great place. There is a really nice road not a mile from the resort, 180 I think.

Thanks-Rob

Greg,

Thanks for sharing the pics. One question: why the double GPS? I have the BMW Navigation on my GS also. Am I missing something without the 2nd unit?

thanks carl

that 2nd unit is the new Garmin 376C

with live NEXRAD weather and XM radio built in

read about it here

by the way....

the weather feature was amazing

there was plenty of rain on my ride last weekend from tropical storm tammy....

you'll want one of these if you read about it... and you like spending money on electronics

Just so happens that I was in Suches today. (Not a big deal since I'm only a couple of hours away). Rode 180 for the first time in a long time and pretty much had the roads to myself. thumbsup.gif

i was thrilled because of 2 reasons:

1. i got to SEE what my investment in the 376C was worth

2. i got to ride all the roads around suches, and there are miles of them... the dragon being the LEAST interesting in the long run because of the amount of folks there

for you folks in the area....

here's a challenge

leave the dragon heading south from the crossroads of time

and find NC 1134

wow

what a road
