Haynes
I want to mount my GPS on the handlebar mounting bolts of my R1150GS. Where can I get the Stainless Steel bolts with the threaded heads? Link to comment
hopz
Any good Nut and Bolt specialty store is where I would start, but... Take a look at this thread: http://www.zumoforums.com/index.php?topic=2798.msg22843#msg22843 That is how I did the mount on my bike... Link to comment
Nice n Easy Rider
Haynes, This may be as cheap as buying the bolt(s) alone and you get a RAM ball along with the 3 differently-sized bolts. http://www.whitehorsegear.com/ram-mount-bolt-on-ball-base Link to comment
Jerry Johnston
When I mounted my GPS on the bars of my 96rt I went to Ace Hardware and purchased longer bolts with an allen head. Link to comment
Haynes
Thanks for the tips guys. I've located a couple of places where I can get the extended bolts in stainless steel. It will be easy enough to machine a few spacers to raise the mounting. Link to comment
hopz
"Machine"? Look very closely at the first few photos of my zumo thread... see the spacers? Most any longer term BMW mechanic will have a few of these laying around in his tool box... IIRC they go under Mirrors for the R1100's, 1150's. Cost is likely=0. Link to comment
John Ranalletta
If you have a steady hand and/or a small drill press and a tap and die set, you can modify the OEM nuts. Drill a hole through the OEM nut. Tap it to accept a longer bolt to replace the OEM bolt. Find a couple of spare RAM balls w/stems. Drill out the centers, tap and screw onto bolts. Or, you could buy the mod from someone who posted here a long time ago. Sorry I can't find the post. Link to comment

Before you do all that drilling and if you intend to add a RAM ball, you'll be better with this. http://www.whitehorsegear.com/ram-mount-bolt-on-ball-base Link to comment
John Ranalletta
I agree 100%, but my personality does not allow me to think ahead far enough to order the parts for the date needed. An hour of sawing, drilling and tapping works for those of us with ADD. Link to comment

I already have the RAM mount so the RAM ball will be perfect. Thanks so much for the link. Link to comment
