Dave_C
I have a 2006 rt with the original ESA suspension. The rear Spring preload used to be adjustable with me and my pass. sitting on it. Then it would only adjust with no one sitting on it. Now it will not adjust at all (58,000 miles on the clock). Damping adjustment(comfort, normal, sport) still works fine. Can I just replace the device for preload adjust. Has anyone done it, how much$$$? Any photos or instructions? Or...any good experiences with after market/ESA adjustable shocks/rear spring? SuperG
I am sure you know this, but just checking. ESA only adjust with the bike running and in neutral. Link to comment
Tim Wilson
Mine did the same thing. I fixed it by replacing the OEM shocks with Hyperpro's. Link to comment
CruisinCruzan
This may not be a hardware issue. The ESA system can sometimes need to be reprogrammed so that the preload works again. This is what happened to my system. This problem was more common with the analog systems that came on the 05-06 RTs. Once the change to a digital sensor was made it was less of an issue. With the mileage you have it may be worthwhile to look at an aftermarket system. Link to comment

They fixed it! I spent $120 for 1-1/2 hours of computer time! BTW....I replaced my shocks with Hyperpros with the ESA conversion. They are working great .......now! Link to comment
JayW
It is also possible that a spent battery could cause the symptoms you describe. At idle the alternator may not be able to fully compensate for a failing battery. Jay Link to comment
