Possible Side Stand Switch Problem

It was a bad day for riding. I had been planning to ride dirt roads on my R100GS only to find that the battery was dead, I decide to take the 2002 R1150RT for a ride, twice the engine cut out. Completely dead running one second and dead the next. The motor display went out both times. It acted like when you leave the side stand down dropping it in gear. I lowered and raise the side stand a couple times and the engine started right up the first time it died, the second it acted like it was flooded, cough and spudderd when I tried to restart the engine, it did restart when I opened the throttle to try to clear the cylinders. After restarting the bike ran fine both times.

Does this sound like a side stand switch problem? Is the side stand switch normally open or closed? That would give me a place to start trouble shooting if the engine dies again.

Disable the stupid side stand switch. Cut the wires, hook 'em together by either soldering, or a crimp connector, shrink tube/insulate the connection. Any potential for this type of problem to allow "non-running" will be eliminated.

I would look into the possibility of your wire-loom too the ignition switch as the possible cause.

Lots of info here if you muddle through it ALL.
