Dave_C
What is the proper way to adjust the throttle cables where they come into the hand grip on the handlebars. Engine on or off? How much slack? Do I need to check sinc? I know you know Link to comment
Beech
I think the spec is 1mm slack. I set mine tight but check by starting the bike and moving the bars back and forth. You need a tiny bit of null (slack) just so you are not pulling the throttle open by chance. Thus I like it at that minimum point. I just picked up a new RT a couple of weeks ago and there must have been a 1/4 inch of slack in the thing. Add that to the drive line lash and zowee. beech Link to comment
Dave_C
where do you measure the 1mm, by turning the throttle? 1mm of rotation of the handgrip? Link to comment
valvman
I don't know what the spec is (and don't care).I find that the less play you have the smoother the on/off throttle and brake to throttle transition will be. I set mine w/ engine off and listen to make sure the throttle plates close when I release the grip. The closer the better... you should test at lock positions but I've never had a problem by setting play at the straight ahead position. BTW Dave, I'm with you on this RT as the best all around bike....it is for me too. Mine is 1 1/2 yrs old and is only 11 mi shy of the 36k mark. It loves the twisties and doesn't mind gnarly dirt roads. Dave '08 R1200RT Link to comment
