General Tso's Chicken?

Twisties

Recommended Posts

For three years now I have been entertained by Mitch's name changes. I assume they have been going on a lot longer than that. This thread is dedicated to the remembrance of those names. What were they? What did you think they meant or commemorated? What did they mean or commemorate? Mitch, what were you thinking? I'm thinking this should be fun and funny, but have learned that I have absolutely no idea where any thread may lead...

I'll start: Something like "Borborgymous," and I had, and have, not the slightest clue why he did it!

Ah, you're thinking of Borborygmus, the sounds your gut makes while digesting food.

I was amused yesterday to think of General Tso's chicken, not as a dish, but as a live animal owned by General Tso.

The rest are too many to remember; I'll be curious to hear what stuck in other people's heads...

:lurk:

Joe Freakin Friday (spelling?)

A the 1st UN I didn't react to your real name, but when you said you were JFF I tackled you with a hug. You have a great sense of humor. The name changes are a riot.

Francisco d'Anconia

Being a fan of Rand, I was taken by surprise at this one & was very curious why he chose it. Well, Mitch?

When I was a young feller newly enlisted in the military and being trained as a cryptographer, I once sent an encrypted message across the replicated world wide secure communications net - "Who is John Galt?"

Suffice to say the folk running the program were not fans. Took 3 days of talking to convince them I was not some kind of subversive.

I was amused by the stunt he pulled in the book where he managed to provoke the government into nationalizing a bunch of worthless assets, much to their detriment.

I gather you've missed the other times when I was also named:

John Galt

Hank Rearden

Dagney Taggart

Along the JFF theme, I've also been Jack Frickin' Bauer and

Also:

Machine Elf

John Frum

Myoclonic Jerk

Yellowbeard ("with your brains and my brawn, we could wreck civilization.")

I think I have been both Spanish Peacock, and Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez, but I'm not sure. If all those characters don't fit, then I guess I could not have been, but I thought I've been both. May have also been The Kurgan.

There have been many more, but I'm drawing a blank right now. I'll be back (was I The Terminator once???) if I think of others...

Nope, I got them with amusement. Especially Dagny, but d'Aconia is a much more obscure character IMO. My son has a t-shirt with "d'Aconia Copper" logo!

Gotta reiterate here that Mitch is surely the BMWST's very own polymath. You make me laugh out loud, think, and learn things I'd not be exposed to otherwise. Thanks!

Keeping up with the Highlander motif, I have also been both Connor Macleod and Russell Edwin Nash (McLeod's modern-day alter-ego).

Also Maximus Decimus Meridius.

Mitch, didn't you use the names of a couple of characters from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?

Thanks, I forgot about those. Two come to mind. One I had to shorten because the DB wouldn't permit enough characters:

Wowbagger the Infinitely Prolonged. Through misadventure he becomes immortal, and decides to spend eternity insulting every living being in the universe. He makes two appearances, accidentally insulting the protagonist a second time.

Agrajag. Rather than being immortal, he is subject to reincarnation, after having accidentally been killed - over and over again - by the protagonist.

Hotblack Desiato. A rock star who, among other things, spends a year being dead for tax reasons.

Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz. Commander of a Vogon ship in charge of destroying the Earth. Author of excruciatingly bad poetry.

What about Meat somthing or other?

From The Fifth Element:

Police: Are you classified as human?

Korben Dallas: Negative, I am a meat popsicle.

I was thinking it was more of a meat algorithm or or the like...

My favorites were the the Atlas Shrugged characters and the hitchhiker's guide ones.

Oh yeah, Meat Analogue. I wonder what a "meat algorithm" is...

Another I forgot about: Muad'dib (I think also Usul, either right before or after that).

TK-421 on the 30th anniversary of Star Wars.

I'm really not that big of a Star Wars nerd, but my 3 year old is...

This begs the question: if he had a dog, would #13 be "General Tso's Dog"?

Second, would we be okay with that or would Chinese food never have caught on?

I'll shut up now.
