bimmerbeemer
A friend is interested in buying a R1200RT, either '05 or '06 model and wonders what, if any, differences exist between the two models. Any tips? Thanks, Alan in NC Link to comment
Fightingpiper
Paint color choice and maybe some of the newest 06's have the wimpy horn...otherwise not much to my knowledge. Link to comment
LeftCoastMan
Yes, there isn't much difference between the two. I have no clue about the horn, but it is wimpy. LOL. So, if you're to make a decision, you can assume that the 06 has some of the kinks removed from the 05. And also, you need to see what differences there are in options between the two. ESA/non-ESA. Radio. Etc. Link to comment
TomfromMD
The switch from the loud dual horn of the '05 to the rather inadequate single horn occurred in either Jan. or Feb. of '06. Also, I believe the later '06 models had the sensor/software change which eliminated the spurious low oil warnings. That should have been fixed under warranty on any used bike you are considering. IIRC, there were no differences in available options or colors from '05 to '06. Tom Link to comment
Tim Wilson
Mine's '06 that was built in '05 and it has the dual horn. Link to comment
hopz
I have the dual horn on my '05 and I'm proud, and loud. Link to comment
99Roadster
I think the hazard switch was removed too and replaced by using the turn signal paddles. Link to comment
Exploreinman
'05 Dual Horn / '06 Single Horn '05 Hazard Switch / '06 Hit both blinkers to activate Hazards Also in '06 the termperature sensor was moved. The '05 model reads 6 degrees under the accurate temp, the '06 model reads 6 degrees over the accurate temp.! Link to comment
hopz
6 degrees Under? Mine is 6 over... since it is often "chilly" here in the intermountain west... I like that... keeps me warmer- so I chose not to do the sensor relocation, Link to comment
Krakken
Mine reads about 8 degrees low. It's nice to see it's a crisp 98 and not in the triple digits Link to comment
Roadwolf
Just a quick note on the dual horn... early 06 models (mine has a build date of 09/05 do have the dual horn set up... as earlier stated, sometime in calendar year 06, the later ones went with the wimpy single horn setup. TomfromMD
Also in '06 the termperature sensor was moved. The '05 model reads 6 degrees under the accurate temp, the '06 model reads 6 degrees over the accurate temp.! Guess I'm lucky as my early '06 has always read within 2o of the true temp. Mike T
I have a '06 manufactured in Feb 2006. It had the wimpy horn until I installed dual highway blasters. No separate hazard switch. Link to comment
