Urban Surfer
My windshield motor stopped working. I can hear the switch working but nothing happens. Maybe the motor? Does any one have information on this please. Link to comment
naysayer
First check for a blown fuse. That was the problem mine had. I could here the switch but i believe that no power goes through the motor relays Link to comment
notacop
Ripping the whole front off the bike isn't too difficult and you my find the cause of the binding, and blown fuse. Fuses only let go when drawing too much current for some reason. Link to comment
Ian
It would be helpful if you would tell us the position that your screen has stopped. When this happened to me it stuck in the down position. The advice I received was that either the motor was burned out or the relay was faulty. Being formerly an electrical/electronics maintenance engineer I felt that problem lay with the limit switches. The fact that the screen had successfully moved to the down position meant that the down limit switch had operated and that the likelyhood was that the up limit switch had not closed. Without removing more than the dash I gave the motor assembly a few taps with a soft hammer and immediately was able to raise the screen. The problem has never returned. Hope this helps, Ian Link to comment
smootz
You don't have to "rip the front off". Just remove the dash and clean the tabs on the relays. I did it in 20 minutes in front of my motel room. Mine required nothing more than a good contact cleaner followed by dielectric grease. With lots of years and miles in the rain I have done this to several areas of the harness, relays, bulbs, and switches. SCOTTIE Link to comment
Ian
Scottie, I think you replied to me in error as I never mentioned removing the front. Ian Link to comment
