motorbob
Is there a technical reason for BMW to use single wall exhaust pipes. Is it for heat dissipation. Would ceramic coating increase exhaust gases temperatures ? I still can't get over the fact that pipes look so bad on such a beatiful motorcycle. Link to comment
moshe_levy
Yeah, it's cheaper to manufacture! A coating or wrap or whatever keeps more heat in and transfers it downstream, so then typically instead of the headers turning color, you've got the junction downstream between the headers and cat, or cat and muffler, that turns. Either way, that heat's going to have an effect. -MKL Link to comment

DMilan
Speaking of double wall.. I had read, and was under the impression for years, that Harleys had double wall headers. Which I had beleived accounted for the shiney and sparkly look ... Just learned a year or 3 ago, when I bothered to take a look, that most/all H-D just possess shields which are positioned as to make it look as though the headers are bright and shiney. Not so. Also recently discovered that the H-D line-up does however use the old BMW turn signal switch configuration. On pretty nice switch contols too. Push left by the left grip for a left turn, push right by the right grip for a right turn. No fugly specimen jar for the front brake fluid either. Clutch is cable I guess. dmilan Link to comment
