roundy
I know the boxer has very interesting engine but when I pull away i get a bit of a rattle, sounds like i am not giving enough gas but i am 2k-3krpm....? Link to comment
RichardSpag
Just give it a little more stick and it'll be fine. You may be loading the engine too much for the gear you're in (it's not a long stroke engine by any stretch of the imagination!). Link to comment
tsp
I have a new 2010 RT and when I ride without my helmet I hear all kinds of strange noises coming from the engine. It sounds a lot better when I ride with my helmet. But then I got my old ST1300 that has all kinds of high pitched noise from the engine. I think it's the long cam chains. And then there's my brother's Harley... that is the opposite of the ST and RT. Whatever sounds that bike makes you hear very well. Dropping into 1st gear scared me the first time! Just ride it. I'm sure it's fine. And I agree with the above, give it a little more gas in each gear. He's right, the new boxer engine is very short stroke. tsp Link to comment

Yeah.. know what you're refering to. I've owned a few R1200s now. '05GS, '07RT, '08 Gs, '05RT, in that order. As I recall, rattle from take-off has been a theme for all to one degree or another. Certainly on both RTs and one of the GSs. Seems better if I slip the clutch just a bit or raise RPM, but that's not my style. For this reason, would say that they're not a great mount for stop and go driving. But who likes stop and go anyway right? Wouldn't worry too much about it. Mine all kept/keep chugging along. .02 Dmilan Link to comment
Penforhire
Check your gasoline quality. It is possible your effective octane is too low. Link to comment
