Eastwern WA, OR weather?

We are planning a motorcycle trip up hwy 395 to its terminus at the Canadian border this summer. What can we expect weather-wise through eastern Washington and Oregon (we're pretty familiar with the Nevada/California segment)?

Our tentative target dates would be late June, perhaps the week of 20 - 27 (haven't even figured exact number of days yet). We want to minimize cold/wet weather, but also miss the hot days in the southern part of the trip, and summer tourist traffic. We realize rain is a possibility pretty much anytime through Oregon and Washington, but we'd like to minimize the chances, if possible.

Another possibility would be to go in mid September, but that would definitely be hot through Nevada and southern Oregon.

What kind of weather can we expect? Any suggestions?

TIA,

That is a good time of the year to ride through Oregon at least (can't speak for Washington). There is usually a BMW rally in John Day, Oregon in June. You may expect some rain. Actually, from the south Oregon border to Burns is usually dry as it is high desert country.

The ride from Burns northward is really beautiful through the Willowas. We spend a lot of time over that way that time of year.

Since you mentioned mid-September, I'll chime in too. We rode eastern Oregon the 2nd week of Sept. a couple of years ago, based out of Portland. The weather was "severe clear" east of the Cascades the whole time--blue skies/dry air--couldn't have been better! Even western Or. was pretty nice too. Our eastern Or. trip was the most enjoyable vacation so far (even including Colorado--sorry Coloradans :)

We will probably do Wa. next time in Sept.

Actually, Hwy 395 north of Burns winds through the Blue Mountains. The Wallowas are further east.

Anyway, Eastern Oregon weather in late June is usually really nice. Not too hot, not too cold. Possible thunderstorms but those are usually earlier in the month.

If you plan your trip for mid July(15-18),you can stop over at the BMWMOA National Rally in Redmond,OR!

JR356

We'll be coming back from the Un in that time-frame, JR. Or staying an extra few days at Tahoe. We're trying to avoid the "vacation season" traffic.

outpost22, Bob, gottabmw (take care of those Tibetans), thank you all for your input. It sounds like late June should be nice.
