Adjusting Valves on 2007 1200 GT

Hi

 

Has anyone ever adjusted the valves on 2007 BMW 1200 GT? I have 18,500 miles and the dealer recommends a valve adjustment at 18,000. Is a valve adjustment really necessary at this low mileage? I researched the maintenance manual and it looks like it's not a do it the self job. I greatly appreciated any help.

BTW, my local dealer recommends 36K valve check intervals for the K.
