Swordofwords
Waht type of second battery do I get, and which wires are pos. and neg? What can I hook the the wires that are adjacent the roll bars? Link to comment
Woodie
I think a standard motorcycle battery. It's pretty obvious once you get in there. IIRC, Pos is towards the front (red wires?). Look for the brown wires, as those are ground on most BMWs. On the wires by the crash-bars, I'm not sure. It would depend on the jurisdiction the bike came from. Commonly, they were for the siren. upflying
The second battery is under the locking "glove box" on the left. The battery is the same as the primary battery behind the fuel tank and ahead of the seat. The positive end of the auxiliary battery faces forward on my bike. Red wires are positive, brownish/tan wires are negative. Wires on the roll bars? You mean the siren lead on the left crash bar? Link to comment
upflying
If you stick a 12v tester on those wires and turn on the siren/horn/aux light switches you can see what wires do what. In my case, I reused the wires to add lights. Link to comment
Swordofwords
On each side, there is a 3 prong (inline)female receptacle. It was probably used for either sirens or lights, maybe both. I looks like it may be handy to just plug in an accessory of choice. I will try to click off some pics (PD motorcycle porn). Sword Link to comment
upflying
Yes, those are pigtails for the lights. Leave them alone and use them to power your accessories from the yellow thumb switch under the right grip. Link to comment
Justin_B
What exactly is ran off the secondary battery wonce the cops take all of their stuff out? I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to leave it in or rip it out to install a stereo... Link to comment
Woodie
The stereo isn't worth it. #2 battery - feeds the "extra" fuses in the fuse box. Wire what you want to them, or directly to the battery. I use the #2 batt as a handy source for +12v up near the front. Link to comment
Justin_B
So, basically as it sits right now this battery is not doing anything? It's gotta earn it's keep or it's outa there!!! I very much enjoy a radio and that is one of the biggest things (besides lighter weight) I miss about my old R100RT. The bike already has speakers and I snagged a radio enclosure off flea-bay for $10. I just look at this as another battery that will go bad in a couple of years and I doubt splitting off any accessories to run off the second battery will improve it's longevity. Link to comment
Woodie
YMMV on the stereo. Too much wind noise/helmet for me. Link to comment
Justin_B
I've found that for my height I can pitch the windshield just right and it's practically silent behind it! I either wear a 3/4 when cooler or "cop style" helmet when it gets hot so hearing it isn't a problem. Link to comment
