AndyS
So, we seem to be having a spate of issues on the forum and there seems to be a lot of folk that spring to the "it's the stick coils" argument. I too have had a stick coil fail a few years ago, which presented itslef VERY clearly - like a dying spark plug. So, here is the question - Is there a conclusive way to test a stick coil without buying a new one (and then say either 'that was money well spent'....or 'drat'! These babies aren't cheap, and so it would be good if there was a test routine to check them. It's easy to diagnose when the problem presents under no load conditions, but when it is more a loaded thing - requiring greater breakdown thresholds, then it all gets a little harder. effexer1
And is there a way to fix them? And I think I read about an extra wire on them that, when removed, extends their service life. Am I dreaming? Link to comment
Dave C.
Have a friend with a RT that does not have the issue and borrow one of his and try one side then the other. If it improves your bike then that answers the question. I used a multimeter on a good one and the suspect one and did not find any difference in the readings, but could feel the difference.
