94aero
Rode to work today, even stopped to get a doughnut or two. parked my 97 rt at work in the morning. At lunch I tried to start it and no go....... I did not hear the fuel pump so I checked the fuse box and low and behold a blown fuse. Is this a prelude to a new pump or is there some other power using item on this line? Thanks Ed Link to comment
11101110
Usually I say there is a reason why the fuse blew and that reason is over current. But Sometimes unsealed fuses can corrode or be weakened by vibration and blow at less than their indicated current. Replace the fuse and if it blows in short order then you have a problem. You could rig up a test with a couple of .25" blade connectors and some wire and connect an amp meter in series (or use a DC clamp meter) and see what your current is. But you would have to know the spec to put that info to any use. Link to comment
T__
ED, for one it depends on what fuse you blew? If the #6 fuse then that is fuel pump,, fuel injectors,, & I believe 02 sensor heater,, maybe also the purge valve on some models.. If another fuse than the #6 (like the #5) that is the Motronic & can keep the fuel pump from operating but not a direct link to the fuel pump.. What fuse did you blow? Carry a couple of spares & if it blows again you will have to look for pinched wires or wires laying on the exhaust,, or something with a lower than desired resistance.. Have you done ANY work on the bike lately? Had the fuel tank off or worked in that area? In cases like this always start at the last thing you worked on/with.. Twisty Link to comment
94aero
I'll look to see which fuse it was. All I saw was a blown one. No work other than FD pivit bearings done this winter. Didn't have to pull any plastic for that. Thanks Twisty Link to comment
