Tony, that sure is one way,, not so sure a good way as it really should drain for fair amount of time & holding the bike up like that for a long while is difficult..

It also looks like it would be all too easy to drop the bike and/or get hurt. Interesting solution, but I'll stick with dropping the FD, which also allows me to lube the splines.

i decided to just blow out my Fd so I could get a new one(under warranty) with the drain plug on the bottom where it was supposed to be!

Dont laugh to loud, I did mine the first time by removing the small front mudguard, under an A frame I lifted the front wheel with a block and tackle and drained the oil, think about it, it was easy.

I, too, think this is a bad way to go about it.

You should always use the specified BMW oil absorbent tissue (part # 11123304693, which was superseded by 11123306493 in 12/2008, $31.92) around the cup you use to catch the oil (part # 11123306298, $62.78). Since you obviously did not use the aforementioned oil overflow and spillage papers, you will have to purchase the Staburags Oil Cleanup paste (113321135-1) and Staburags Oil Cleanup cloth (113321136-9), not to mention the Staburags Oil Cleanup cloth disposal bag (113442332) to clean up the work space.
