How much should the 6k mi maintenance be?

Just curious, I am at 5700mi with my R12ST. I tried searching the forum but can't seem to find the answer.

Thanks whoever answers!

It varies geographically, somewhere in the $300-$400 range. You can save some money by doing the fluids yourself if that is something you enjoy. You can do the whole thing if you like if it's something you enjoy even more. :-)

Comparing costs from one region, or even city, to another is not particularly meaningful. I'd simply ask any dealer(s) close to where you live and see what they quote you. It should be pretty straightforward (I'd confirm that they're quoting on everything on BMW's checklist by going over it line by line).

Thank you! Actually love doing my own service but seem to be way too 'time challenged' to add something else into the mix.

Since my dealer is 100 miles away, it takes less time to do it myself. The motor has to be cold to adjust the valves. Valve adjust takes about 30 minutes, changing fluids takes about an hour. Plus, I'm hundreds of dollars ahead!

Make sure to keep all receipts to substantiate the required parts were acquired for the service in case of a warranty claim down the road.

It should cost you no more than a dozen doughnuts and a pot of coffee plus the oil, filter, etc. and an email from some locals.

There are lots of folks in the community who love to come help others work on their bikes. They can be found and will come do it for the aforementioned staples and the knowledge they are helping a fellow rider.

I know because I'm one of those guys. A 6K isn't a big deal really, takes about an hour if the bike is cool at first. It's the bullshooting and story telling that takes all the time!

True enough. The R bikes with their heard hanging in the breeze are a cinch to work on for the normal stuff. One of the beauties of the design. If you are a club hand there is probably some one near who can help and show you the ropes.

Nasty comes when it's filter time for the fuel and the like. Then BMW sucks.

Oh, set the valves a little loose and you won't have to adjust them much if at all.
