Skywagon
You know how you say something to a friend and wish you could take it back? I have a 1979 R100RT with 15,100 miles. I am the second owner. It is in very good condition. It has never spent a night outdoors are any rough treatment. New metzlers, custom corbin seat and backrest, a few other goodies. I was talking to a neighbor and professed I should probably sell it since it doesn't get ridden much. He came by my house today and held out 38 $100 bills and said here you go.... Ugh. I am torn. I love the bike, it is special. I don't ride it more than about 20 miles a year, and I have a neighbor who wants it for what I think it probably about market. What to do what to do...no promises were made. Link to comment
Deadboy
Post a photo..... But honestly why not sell it and plan to rent a bike once a year? It is not doing the bike any favors letting it sit, just be sure he knows the deal and wish him luck on his new bike..... Link to comment
ratfink
I don't know how many times it has happened, just a helluva lot. I'm out with a friend and there goes a 55 chevy, a 66 mustang, a toaster tank, whatever it is and one of us says "I used to have one of those and I kick myself for selling it." Link to comment
FLrider
Do you intend to replace that toy with a different toy? If you don't need the money and don't mind paying the maintenance and insurance costs, Keep your bike. You WILL regret selling it long after you spent the $3800. I've done that a half dozen times and kicked myself every time. Of course, had I followed my own advice, I would have no room for ANY vehicles in my 3 car garage Link to comment
Woodie
I just sold mine (1980, R100RT). Not as nice, but many, many memories. Tough call...but I wasn't riding it at all, so better to go someplace and get attention, rather than gather dust in my garage. Link to comment
krussell
Tell him $3800 + three free riding days a year. You'll both be happy. Link to comment
hANNAbONE
yEAH - i agree with the statements said above - I've sold stuff way back and more recently...but honestly, some wise old sage on this board summed it up perfectly for me when he said - "my favorite bike..? is the one I'm currently on..." Brilliant.! If you aren't riding it but 20 miles a year (??) - there must be a reason. Figure that one out - and you'll know what you should do with the sale/no sale...[[iF the money (3800) is right in yo head.]] Link to comment
RichEdwards
I don't ride it more than about 20 miles a year Sell it. Bikes seem to tell us when it's time to make the move. Link to comment
Quinn
I don't think I'd sell it to my neighbor. Either he'd wreak it and I'd feel bad, or he'd have so much fun on it that I'd feel bad, or he'd just abuse it and let it die a horrible death and I'd feel bad. --- Link to comment
boatzo
You have a heck of a dilema there Sky. I actually think that if that is all you use it, I'd sell it. The comment about not selling to a neighbor has merit, but I like the other comment about selling and getting 3 free rides a year. Best of luck with your decision. Let us know what you end up doing.
