Mike2574
Hi, (new to forum so pardon any errors) I have a R1200RT ex police bike (2007) and want to convert it to be able carry a pillion (my wife). Has anyone done this and can offer some advice. I am trying to source the parts at a reasonable price. Local dealers are very pricey. tks Link to comment
ratfink
Welcome to the board: I haven't seen much discussion about conversion for the 1200. When I bought the bits for an oilhead 5 years ago it was about $700. I got them from Max BMW NY and found them to be very helpful. A&S was helpful too but much higher price. At that time it was difficult to find the used parts that were necessary. Can you tell us about the prices you have been quoted so far? Also pls add pictures of your -P to the thread in Motorcycle talk. Link to comment
Mike2574
Tks, RFink, I have looked at the Max BMX web site and made a list of the parts needed but not sure if I have them all, from the fiche it seems to add up to $1170us. The BMW dealer in Aust that I contacted qouted just under $2000 au. Contacted as many wreckers as I could find and no sucess. I was hoping for less than $1000. Rg Mike Link to comment
ratfink
First of all I would recomend calling or emailing Max and asking them for their rock bottom price and also if they already have a list compiled of the necessary bits. You may find they have a comprehensive list and also that they are willing to discount an order this size. (they did for me), but that was a while ago. You might do the same with A&S cycles in the SF bay area, google them, they specialize in serving police agencies. If you get a little desperate contact Hollywood Motors in El Cajon Ca. just to see what they have to offer. Use extreme caution with these guys and if u decide to give them a try only use a credit card that gives you chargeback priveleges in the event of a dispute. They do not have a very good reputation. Also keep in mind mind that I am totally clueless when it comes to international transactions and my advice is questionable. Link to comment
Glen22
I am thinking of converting my 2006 R1200RT-P to daul seat. Just wondering where you ended up getting the parts and how much it cost? Cheers... Glen Link to comment
