hANNAbONE
pLEASE - do not open it. Seems my whole email add'y listing was compromised and everyone got an email directing them to a Viagra website. Seems there is no virus attached (*yeah right*) So how do I reclaim my personal email add'y - OR DO I ? Do I need to switch it to something else.? Hannabone@gmail.com? talk to me - I am not versed in this type of spamming. Anyone? Link to comment
philbytx
Firstly, run an anti-virus sweep of your PC (Malwarebites is a good freebie to start). And do you actually have a firewall/antivirus program on your PC (Zonelabs/McAfee etc) and do you regularly scan your PC? If you don't, do it right away. Then switch your Email addy. Everyone else is pretty much buggered...... Link to comment
hANNAbONE
pHIL : did the anti virus / anti spam sweep...yesterday, doing it again here at home as i type this. do have Norton AND AVG free - scan regularly - in fact, just had $150.00 fix on my work computer to clean out viruses etc..even with those components in place...drat it.! switch email - need to do that I guess...sadly thank you Link to comment
philbytx
Did you take note of how many virii it found and what type? In general, the free version of anything, although not bad, will not have the "bells and whistles" and deeper cleaning of a regular bought program. Link to comment
Smoky
I got an email from you yesterday, I didn't open it, as I knew something was fishy, all the caps were in the right place!! Link to comment

Selden
I've gotten spammer messages from myself. Probably the best defense is to start using Gmail -- their spam filtering seems to be really good. Link to comment
marcopolo
I had my Hotmail account hacked a week ago and everyone on my contacts list got a strange e-mail from "me" promoting a website (with appropriate link) selling electronics. Just about everyone recognized from the language that it was not from me, except for one person who thanked me and and said he'd have a closer look when he got home from the office. I told him that wouldn't be a good idea. I scanned my entire PC and found a Trojan Horse. The virus software got rid of that and I changed my e-mail password (using a different computer). That seems to have worked. My wife's Hotmail account was hacked about 18 moths ago. In her situation it set up a strange out-of-office reply, complete with link. We fixed it in a similar way and she has not been bothered since. Looking at what's available on Microsoft's website, this certainly is not uncommon. Link to comment
