Has anyone used the maintenance kits from beemerboneyard? I am considering doing my first annual (24k) maintenance, and am looking for the best options for parts. I did not notice some of the brands listed in the kit on the archive, so thought I'd ask if anyone has used these. I have a 2007 RT. I'm also planning to purchase the JVB DVD, seems like there are several good comments on this site. Any other advise is appreciated!

beemerboneyard kits are OK. Oil filters are approved for the model on the filter makers (Mann) EU information (not shown on their US website however). Oils and parts meet BMW specs.

Use if you wish with no worries.

Dealer parts are also obviously OK - BMW oils are blended/filled for BMW by a well known US maker of speciality oils that makes good stuff from high quality raw materials bought direct from major petrochem manufacturers. You can get these shipped to you from many dealers.

BBY kits are just fine, and actually Mike is very good about making sure you have everything you need for a service.

thanks for the feedback. I purchased a kit today and will be doing the work next weekend. I'll post how it goes... I have maintained a couple of dirt bike over the years, but this is a little more intimidating. Unfortunately our local dealer went out of business right after I purchased the bike a year ago. Closest dealer now is about 150 miles.

Thought I'd give a quick report back on the weekend 24k maintenance. My son and I have worked on dirt bikes over the years, and this was another quality day with him. As this was the first time I have worked on the bike myself it was a little intimidating to start. The Jim VonBaden DVD was a great help... sequence, tools, tips, etc. The kit from beemerboneyard.com was very complete, including oil and air filter, spark plugs, crush washers and o-rings. I purchased the lubes locally along with some Honda Moly 60 paste for the FD spline.

Getting the fluid in the final drive was a pain... until I put a small block under the center stand to get just a little tilt... I didn't have a replacement alternator belt, so that will wait until I get back to the dealer (150 miles). Also did not balance the carbs.... I need to build a monometer... Exhaust valves were a little tight, I did a valve adjustment on both sides.

The complete job took me about 8 hours with help from my son.... I'm sure the second time will be a little faster. The only bad news was there were two tuperware screw left over.... darn it! Overall it was alot of fun!

The wrench that fits over the bottom of oil filter will be in the tool box before the next job. I used the wire loop behind the coil for the side spark plugs... it takes a strong wire (ended up using picture hanging wire looped around the lip on the coil then wrapped around a screw driver).

Matt-

All OK except there's no carbs to balance on this bike. BMW R-bikes have been fuel injected since about 1994 or so....
