Joe Frickin' Friday
Time for new summer tires on Masako's '99 Civic. Tire size is 185/65R14. We've got winter tires on separate rims, so I'm not looking for all-season tires, unless there happens to be a set that's got better traction than summer-only tires. Looking for something with great dry/wet traction. Quiet/smooth is secondary concern, durability is tertiary concern. My Maxima has Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's; I like them a lot, but they don't sell them in Civic-size. Something similar would be ideal. Any recommendations? TireRack only offers the Sumitomo HTR 200. chrisolson
how about these 185/65R14 = 23.3 diameter 195/60R14 = 23.2 diameter rim width might be an issue, don't know what the stock civic is, but if its 5 1/2 you're ok Link to comment
Mike O
I read in another thread that the new Pilot Road II's provide generally good mileage and traction. Michelin must make a size for a little civic. Mike O Link to comment
Boone60
Last summer I had 4 Kumho tires mounted on my Civic, and I like them a lot. The original tires on the Civic would hydro-plane, but the Kumhos stick real nice and hold the road good on snowy roads. Link to comment
Rocer
Hi Dan - in CR's all season T rated category the Kumho Solus KR21 rated above the Yoko's. ( 6th and 12th respectively out of a field of 23 tested tires). Comparing the two, Kumho's were better on ice and better tread life but because the Civic already has winter tires I bypassed the Kumho's to highlight the Yoko's rated E vs VG in the hydroplaning category. In the meantime, over in the Summer UHP category that Mitch is running in, the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 (where have I heard that model before ) rated first with E's in Dry & Wet braking as well as hydroplaning. It's not clear that these tires are available in the Civic's size(s). Link to comment
motoguy128
I'd look at performance in the rain as primary goal, then tire noise and treadlife after that. The Civic is a very good handling vehcile, so dry weather traction from any summer tire should be good enough. Link to comment
rob1100r
While I'm not sure of the model number, I give kudos to the Kumho's..I know someone with them on a Civic (SI) and another with them on an Accord, and I have a set on the old ladys RAV4, they are good all around and wearing well! Will get them for my truck this year... Link to comment
