The best answer is..."The one you think is comfortable"

My personal favorite is Russell Daylong Saddles. I am absolutely spoiled by the comfort these seats provide. There are other choices like Corbin, Sargent. The sons of the original Russell saddle builder have their own businesses, Rocky Mayer and Rick Mayer. I think they're both still in business. Cee Baileys, best known for their windscreens, also makes seats for your RT.

Go to a rally or breakfast gathering where you can hopefully see some of these seats and maybe even get to sit on one or two. Also keep an eye on the classifieds here or at IBMWR or the BMWMOA websites for a used seat and save some big bucks. Russell prices have gone up considerably since I last bought one.

Here's a pic of the driver only version with the passernger seat recovered to match in the large rectangular stitching pattern. My old RT posing on a gorgeous road in northern Arkansas

600 miles on my 96 RT with a Corbin was a big day. 1100 mile days on my 97 GS with a Day Long were easier to do. It has a lot to do with you, the saddle, the handle bars, foot pegs. You'll know when you get the right combination. JON

I've got a Corbin on mine but I much prefer the Russell that was on my old bike - much more comfortable. Although, I have to say, that anything beats the stock seat. It always felt like the narrow edge of a 2 X 6.

Not a direct answer but....

A cheaper alternative is a cushioned seat cover like AirHawk. It's not the same as a custom contoured seat but if cost is an issue, it will serve you well on long days in the saddle.

Just put one on, haven't really broken it in yet. It's the easiest way to go..no sending your seat off, no pictures of you on the bike, no long lead times/waiting..a fine product for the price. Much better than the stocker..and still allows one to "hang off a bit."

Those others, that have the "ass wings"..no way..yet i'm on an RS, not an RT..YMMV... :D

Flat twin always beats me to it and good thing too. I am not a good typer and he always says everything I would have said. We have to get together some time.

Now for some additional comments; I had a Corbin, hard and hated it. Got a BMW "uncomfort seat" better but still uncomfortable. Ordered a Rick Mayer seat in leather, like it a lot. Sent it back once for some adjustment, they fixed it at no charge, good service. I had the opportunity to sit on a Russell Day Long with the "fat ass wings", it felt great ,but I didn't ride on it. For short legged folks they spread you out and make it more difficult to flat foot. They are pretty pricey so be real sure before you order one. I also tried an AIRHAWK, hated it and sold it on ebay.I also jacked up the front of the seat 1/4 " and that helped.

My son got a Sargent seat on his GSA and added the "WOOD BEADS". He says that made all the difference.

Beemers just aint comfortable for the average American. I hope the Germans like em better. Every butt is different. Hope this helps.

Well.....

Check this photo of a Russell seat on an RS. The "ass wings" are supporting the hips and thighs. This is a friends RS but I have a similar seat on mine. I don't use barbacks because the slight forward lean of the RS works real well and keeps the weight off my butt. The "ass wings" go a step further in distributing the weight.

Everyones needs and tastes are different but this works for me.
