Rinkydink Posted February 28, 2010 Share Posted February 28, 2010 I keep a bike cover on my F800ST and was wanting opinions on keeping a battery tender on it and the associated explosive gasses concentrating underneath the cover. upflying Posted February 28, 2010 Share Posted February 28, 2010 No, aren't modern batteries sealed? Even if you have a wet cell battery, the 500milliamp Battery Tender won't gas the battery. Link to comment

ShovelStrokeEd Posted February 28, 2010 Share Posted February 28, 2010 Even if the battery were to outgas, the resulting gas, Hydrogen, would permeate through the cover in short order. In addition, free Hydrogen isn't going to hang around very long before combining with O2 in the atmosphere. Even if it does, you would still need an ignition source. Link to comment
boatzo Posted February 28, 2010 Share Posted February 28, 2010 Linc, AGM, GEL, & sealed lead acid batteries won't gas so you are OK. Wet cell batteries with filler caps will gas, but I doubt that you have one of those . . Link to comment
