CoarsegoldKid
There is a bike in Newark that has piqued my interest. Is there a member close enough to check it out for me? Send PM. thanks Link to comment
Whip
If you can't find anyone, maybe the young man that stayed with us could help. You may remember him, he was on the /5 and didn't feel the cold. Link to comment
Bronx Cheer
If the bike is in Newark it's probably hot.. Just kidding. Link to comment
CoarsegoldKid
Since I posted the request I have determined that buying a bike in New Jersey is filled with problems. First: if the vehicle has less than 7500 miles on the odometer California will not register it unless certain conditions are met and those conditions don't apply. If I were to some how skirt them NJ has it's hoops to jump through too.The license plate must be removed at time of sale and a new one applied for. Odometer reading must be entered on title exchange papers. Inspections must be up to date and so forth. If it were to remain in NJ fees will be collected including insurance for that state. Bummer Link to comment
John Ranalletta
Bought a bike in NJ. Seller signed title and handed it over. Took it to IN BMV like all the others I've purchased. Perhaps, NJ LEOs have a BOLO for me. Link to comment

Bummer Don't you love California's control and regulation on us? That 7500 mile new vehicle requirement is there to prevent California residents from crossing the border to buy a new vehicle and bring it back into California. The official reason is because this nanny state does not want an emissions legal vehicle other states brought into Ca where the vehicle can't be sold due to emissions reasons. A recent example is the previous generation VW Jetta TDI. It could not be sold in Ca because it didn't pass emissions. The unofficial reason is the state loses out on sales and use tax revenue. Some of that tax is recovered when you register it in Ca. If it were me, I would ride a NJ tagged vehicle in Ca until the 7500 miles appeared on the odometer and register it then. Link to comment
CoarsegoldKid
I figured I'd just leave it in the east until the thaw and ride it back but the person selling it must remove the plate then that's a lot of miles to ride with them. My luck I'd go straight to jail and lose the bike. Thanks but I'll just have to look in California. Link to comment
Gregori
Register it in Oregon or New Hampshire, where there is no sales tax. After you've owned it for six months or more, you'll not be liable for CA sales taxes. As a side benefit, you'll probably have accumulated the 7500 miles it needs to have rolled before being eligible to be registered in Kalifornistan. Link to comment
Matts_12GS
I could offer to go pick it up and babysit it or you. I have a habit of babysitting other people's motorcycles... Link to comment
