PC help needed: easiest way to record phone calls to a laptop

I need to record customer service calls to a laptop as .wav files. Input device will be one of those Radio Shack units that plugs in line between the cradle and handset, with a 1/8 inch male jack to link this up to the laptop.

What is the simplest, most cost effective software you'd recommend? Will 'Windows Media Player' do the job?

Also, we'll be trying to spoof a number so the corporate ph # won't show up on the caller ID of the staff we're evaluating. We could use *67, or buy a prepaid 'spoof card'; any suggestions?

Do you need the actual voice recording, or would a transcript suffice? If the latter, transcription is an automatic feature of Google Voice -- and in my limited experience with GV, it works pretty well.

We need to be able to hear the staffer's voice; a portion of the assessment is based upon items like tone, rate of delivery, etc.

I have not tried this, but it looks like what you need ... price seems right.

Thanks Chris! This looks promising; I'll take a look at it.

There a a lot of shareware programs available. Look at this site recorders

I used a program called Advanced AV Rack and connected from the cell phone output into the line input of my computer - worked great. I tried a phone pickup but got too much hum.
