Shock Removal \ Ohlin Rebuild Charlotte, NC

I've got a new to me 2000 R1100RT. It is equipped with Ohlin's that are due for a rebuild and are possibly set up with too light of spring. The previous owner was 170 & I weigh in at 215. I've tried to adjust preload on both front & rear & can't get in to spec.

1. How long should it take to remove the shocks?

2. Can anyone recommend a shop for the rebuild in the Charlotte area?

Thanks

Been awhile since I installed mine but it was a very easy job. I'm guessing an hour to 1.5hr to remove at the most. It would really help if you had the old shocks to put in place of the Ohlins just so you could use the bike until you get the Ohlins rebuilt.

1-It should only take a couple hours to remove it by yourself.

I just had mine off and had them rebuilt 3/27/2009 and it isn't that hard a job.

I used the Clymer and Haynes manuals. Make sure you have all your tools ready that will be needed, and be careful taking the nut off the top of the front shock. It is a slight oval shape as opposed to round. You might want to buy 2 new rubber bushings for the top front also. The old ones may be crushed down too much.

A cheap item from BMW.

2- Ohlins is right here in Hendersonville, NC about 2 hours from you.

You can ship to them or make an appointment and bring them in for the rebuild. They will spec them out correctly for your weight etc... When you are all done putting them back on, you can ride your bike back in to them and they will even set the shocks correctly to your weight and riding style and give you the scoop on how to properly use them. The shop their is terrific.

The price for the rebuild of both was $330 Total, but I brought them in so shipping would probably add to that price.

Good luck with your project.

I had Rick @ Cogent Dynamics in Fletcher, NC rebuild them & re spring the rear. What a difference! Got my first ride in today, 60 mile test ride. It feels so well planted & responsive. I couldn't be happier, Rick & Joyce were great to work with & the prices were fair. If you're in the market for a rebuild, I would highly recommend them.

I agree. contact Rick, you'll save a few bucks, get your shocks custom setup for you and he is a great guy to deal with, plan on being without them for a couple of weeks as it's maintenance time!!
