I was at the cycleworld show in NY this weekend, of course I stop at the BMW booth. I own a 2008rt and after seeing the 2010 and seeing all the changes, I might pull the trigger, It is really nice. I know the resivoirs look cheap, but in person, not so bad. Anyone else see it this way and thinking about a change in bikes from one rt to the other?

I was also at the show, and was not impressed by the new RT. I have an 06, and love it! What's with the puke green color too? I think the clutch and brake fluid reservoirs look stupid.

Anyways, I sat on a 2010 K1300GT and some guy who converted to it from an RT was urging me to buy one... He couldn't sop talking about the power...

I would keep the 08.

I say if you like the bike, buy it and enjoy it. I have a 2005 R1200RT with 78,000 trouble free and very happy miles. This is a so called new model year bike your supposed to stay away from. If everybody stayed away from new models we would either have no new models to choose from or put them out of business. I think there are issues and problems with every year and model, but hopefully they are the minority. I was looking to get to 100,000 on my 05 this year and then get a new one,but I know now when I go to the bike show in Chicago next month and look, sit on,and kick the tires of the new 2010 RT, and if my emotions dictate to buy a new bike, I will not hesitate because it is a so called new model. The only problem is I still can't get rid of the smile I get when riding my (new model, stay away from) 05RT. Ride and enjoy or buy and enjoy.

I had the exact opposite reaction. I thought it wasn't different enough to upgrade. 1300cc 120-130hp/90-95ft-lb would have interested me. Everything else is is just cosmetic.

+1. Well said.

2005 RT (new model, stay away from with only 58K trouble-free miles). I am keeping it for the forseeable future.

Amen, brother. Hopefully the new DOHC engine has a bit more planned for it. I'd be seriously looking at another ST/RS style boxer with numbers like that. Or maybe better... an S with HP2 numbers.

As one of the first adopters, you get to post the first how to's and gain the admiration of your fellow members.

That privilege is priceless.

Or is that without price.

I forget

I saw this bike also in NY and was impressed that they fixed a lot of minor cosmetic problems with the older bikes (dash glare for one). I also have an 05 and I've had issues with seals failing. I'd consider the 2010 model but I'd like to test it out first. The price was upped about $200+/- from last year. Not certain it's worth it...particularly since the competition for sport/touring bikes seems to be getting stronger and BMW dealerships are still few and far between (compared to the competition)

This camhead motor could turn out to be much better than specs tell us. Who knows at this moment. I haven't read anything about it yet. Could be more flexible with more torque, smoother and quieter.

I think that with care and scheduled maintainance it's hard to wear out a BMW, at least in Maine where winter comes early and stays late.I really kike my '05 RT as well as my k75 and my wifes 850r. I do miss my r90s so I'd buy an airhead rather than another newer "better" RT at this time. All of my bikes can get me driving awards in any state.

i don't think that is the 2010 version? Wrong plug covers and shape on cylinder heads. Looks like a 2009.

Not sure, it looks like the new mint silver/green paint colour similar to other videos I have seen. I saw the new OHC cam motor on a GS today @ the local dealer & the spark plug cover looks a little different to the video one.

One of the videos I have seem is definitely the new model & it is a couple riding around what looks like Scotland so maybe it is from the new series of RT ads that are being leaked to tease us.

The RT in the video has the high mounted GPS so it may be the new model?

I am sure somebody will let us know soon enough.

Yup, for sure it's a 2010 RT. The valve cover protectors disguise it a bit. The question I have is, what's the story with the very tiny beer mugs  at 1:59 in the vid?

:) Good catch! Sampling the available brews before ordering a pint. (I hope.)

Exactly -- samples.

For sure it's the 2010: revised front fairing panels; new brake and clutch resevoirs; new windscreen and one of the new 2010 colours. This is a BMW promo video. If you look at the 2010 RT brochure available at the BMW UK website you'll see several still photos of the same couple and bike in Scotland (I have a great shot from that brochure on my PC desktop).

My wife and I spent a couple of weeks in Scotland in May and we both said it would be a great place to tour on a bike.

Thanks guys!

You'd think that all the bottles lined up there would have clued me in. Nope! :dopeslap: Does look like a beautiful place to visit.

Maybe a little less hp, al little more torque, and better reliability would get me excited. I don't want to keep hearing storied about rear drives.

@ 2.49 I see the engine cover protectors which is what confused me about what model it was? I had to pause the video to see this, sneaky of BMW to do this.

The high mounted GPS is standard feature now isn't it.

Looks like it will be a sales success for BMW.

I bet those local brews are worth sampling too!

After seeing the valve adjustment procedure pics, the bike just jumped a few notches on my lust list. :/

Hmm.. What exactly would the trade in value be on a very nice 05? :) Oh no, really? :(

1LIFE2LIVE, Thanks for finding these nice pics!

Well, that color really looks a lot better than it does on the BMW site. It looks a lot more washed out on the BMW site. This color looks very similar to my Sand Beige Metallic.

They've definitely cleaned up the styling a bit. To nitpick, that R1200RT decal looks slapped on and doesn't follow the lines of the bike. I hope the lcd display has improved contrast in daylight. The new fluid reservoir cups sticking up from the bars are just inexcusable - really cheapens the bike. And it looks like those headers will still turn cowpie brown inside 1000 miles, no doubt. And yeah, betcha the horn sounds like a moped horn (my 06 has the last of the strong dual horns).

Despite the refinements, what is the betting that the inner ring of kph numbers on the speedo still don't illuminate in the dark?. I know it would be of little impact to you guys in the US, but it is a real oversight for us poor UK cousins that like to pop over to Europe from time to time.

Anyone recognize the actors in the R1200RT Video Scotland-tour? I think I know who they are!

Herbert Schwarz, owner of Touratech-AG and his wife Romona Eichhorn (moto-journalist).

Any idea how the menu selector thing works on the left grip? If it's iDrive in the cars, are is it going to be iRide on the bikes?

Richard, I rode an 09 RT while my bike was being fitted with new shocks last week and the Speedo on that bike had both the MPH and KPH illuminated on it, FYI.
