tazplas
Hi People This is probably aimed at those in Downunder but i am wondering what oil filters fellow riders use. I have just purchased another filter from the dealer at $31 and i reckon there has to be something here Downunder that is available for less. No real luck on web searches for Mahle OC91 filters in Oz. It's frustrating to see 5 filters for $40 US or $10 US each but by the time i add freight etc we are nearly back to the original cost. Ideas from/for Downunder? Yeah i also know that the cheapest thing about a BMW is the owner. How true! Cheers Steve Link to comment
NoHeat
Oilheads filters are the same size as many automobile filters. About the only thing that distinguishes the BMW filter is that it lacks an anti-drainback valve (it doesn't hurt anything if you use a filter with anti-drainback, but it doesn't help anything either, due to the inverted position of the filter on the bike). Among the very many automobiles that use exactly the same oil filter size is my wife's 2004 Toyota Sienna minivan, which was available with only one engine size. So if you can go to your autoparts store (do you call them auto bits stores?) and look for a filter for that minivan, you'll have what you need. Link to comment
Selden
You need to make sure you get a filter that swirls in the proper direction for the southern hemisphere. Link to comment
RTCHIEF
Google search different oil filter distibutors in OZ. Price the filters by the case. Sell what you don't need for the season. Jon Link to comment
rkjjeep
look for any equivalent of a purolator L10241 or AC PF53, or Bosch 3330 Link to comment
rkjjeep
that minivan takes a AC pf53 just like the oilhead. you can also use any oil filter that will fit a non turbo Chrysler pt cruiser, like the ones mentioned above. Link to comment

tazplas
Thanks All Have managed to track down a filter supplier for Mann-Hummel here in Hobart. Haven't got a price yet so importing from the US could still be the solution. However, at least if i buy them from here i can be sure they have been adjusted to swirl in the right direction since we are in the Southern Hemisphere. Hadn't allowed for that in the past!!! Other makes such as Fram. Mobil 1, Champion etc just gets you funny looks from auto stores and there is next to nothing on the net for here in Oz. I have tried all the names and the closest i got was tracking down Mann-Hummel and Purolator (which directed me to Mann-Hummel) So there we go. I am awaiting prices from a local source for a MW712. Cheers and thanks again Steve Link to comment
