noel
On my way home last night, during the last 0.5 mile, I was on 3rd gear and running about 5K on rpm. As it was going, the lights and computer display would dim and return to full brightness a few times. That got my attention but not as much as when I applied my brakes and they really dimmed to the extent that it seemed to lose power. As I entered the neighborhood, I proceeded to apply the brakes to see how it would react. It was getting worse. As I pulled in to the driveway and applied my brakes, it dimmed and completely shutdown. I lost my servo brakes but was able to stop in time. As I alighted from my ‘05 1200RT, it came back on. I subsequently shut it down. I returned about 5 minutes later to try again. It started up just fine and when I applied the brakes to see what happens next, to my surprise, the strange behavior was no longer. It has not repeated itself since yesterday. The bike runs 100% gasoline. Sat for a month on a tender. The Odyssey is less than a year old. It only has 29K miles. Anybody experienced this? Any advice? Link to comment
4wheeldog
The first place I would look is battery cable connections. What you are describing is what happens when a connection is loose or corroded. After that, with canbus, the dealer is pretty much your only option. Good Luck! Link to comment
ScottT
A good friend of mine just had something similar happen to his 05 RT. the bike finally died stranding him. The culprit turned out to be the alternator. Link to comment
noel
The new battery is roughly 6-9 months old. The connectors are seated correctly and have no corrosion as I inspected them when placing the battery on the tender. I was wondering about the alternator but it only happened that one time and no other. It started just fine this morning at 37F and the ride in of 10 miles was uneventful. That being said, I will keep an eye on the alternator. Thanks for the replies. Link to comment
