twowheelsonly
Hello again! I am trying to mount some Catz lights, they are a combo fog/driving lights, I was wanting to mount them below the fairing. based on my measurements I have a maximum of 2 3/4 inch between the lights and the top of the fender.. I have seen other R1100RTs with lights mounted under the fairing.. any advise on how much travel the shocks will deflect when braking hard? Appreciate the help Stewart Link to comment
T__
Stewart, you are going to be close.. I can’t tell you how much jounce deflection you will have but you will have some under braking but BMW has a pretty good anti dive geometry built in so you will probably have more jounce travel when hitting big bumps or swells (especially when braking with a full tank of fuel).. My suggestion would be to install a tight tie strap on each fork leg about 1” above the lower leg seal area,, then go out & ride the heck out of the bike over big bumps & hard braking.. Those tie straps will move up the fork leg to the extent of the lower’s travel so you will then have an idea of jounce travel.. Twisty Link to comment
twowheelsonly
Thanks Twisty!!! I will do what you suggested.. and let you know what I find.. I am hoping to use these lights but I rather be safe than sorry.. Stewart Link to comment
Danny caddyshack Noonan
Stewart My driving lamps are under the oil cooler plenum. They stand 1 5/8" and get lightly wacked every now and then due to my driveway curb. Link to comment
Michaelr11
I use the Ezy-Mount bracket for the R1100RT which mounts the lights under the oil cooler - above the fender. I'm not familiar with the lights you're planning to mount but this bracket is designed for the PIAA 1100X lights or lights of similar size. Check their website for photos... http://www.ezymount.com/retail/index.htm Link to comment
snod
The PIAA 1100's will scratch up the top of the fender when used with the EZ-Mount and stock shocks. Experience from two different 1100RT's. You can install an RS fender and gain a little clearance, and heavier shocks will reduce the possibility of the light striking the fender. If what you are installing is any larger than the 1100's they will impact the fender significantly. Link to comment
r77toy
How tall are the PIAA's? Link to comment
twowheelsonly
I definitely have to do some checking here, Based on this input I am not going to install what I have, guess I can use it on my motor home.. needs some good lights anyway.. I finally got my HID system 50/55 watt 4300K to work so I should be able to be seen better than stock, I also added the Kisan Signal Minder and now have 4 Amber running lights and so it is easier for people to see me at night, I wanted to add one more set of lights for daytime running lights so I will keep looking!! Thanks! Stewart Link to comment
