Hexhead Paint

Anyone know where to get paint to match the hexhead motor? I have a valve cover that needs a bit of a touch up.

Dealer says BMW is out of the paint business. Colorite was not able to provide.

Dunno if this will help, but try taking (call first) the part to an auto paint store (Pittsburgh, others maintain stores just for car paint) and see if they can computer match the color. Many of the stores can fill a rattle can right in the facility. I've had mixed, but generally positive, results over the years with it.

+1 on Holt they can definitely match your paint! (But it will be expensive!)I've been fortunate on my 1200, but my 1100 was a different matter, I scratched them several times. I ended going to a auto paint store and they did a good job of matching the existing paint, if they miss it a little, just paint both valve covers, then they will match! Also ask them to put something in the paint to make it dull like the original finish, I've forgotten what they called it, but it worked out nicely.

Hope this helps,

Steve

I can't find it now but I read somewhere that Dupli-Color High Performance Wheel Coating (Silver + Clear coat) was a good match for the valve covers. Maybe not perfect but easily obtainable.

Holt is not very expensive. They will mix you I think as little as .25 of pint and ship it ground.

It was $23.50 for I think about 1/2 or 1/4 pint and $10 to ship it. But the match and texture were perfect!

It was the silver trim color on an'09 RT called Weiss Aluminum Matte #3

Not sure if the Valve cover is the same as all the other silver trim, but Kent Holt or one of his perople will be able to tell you exactly!

I think the less you buy the more expensive it is per pint.

I had the top case painted to match on my RT at a local body shop and they did a perfect match with just the paint they have in stock. Did not order any BMW paint just used there in-house mixer.
