Kraynak
Has anyone painted their side panels on their GS? I am talking about where your knees touch on a 2004 or newer GS. Mine has a dull gray finish and was wondering if anyone has painted these panels. How did it come out? What type of paint? Link to comment
Jim VonBaden
I did it in black bedliner paint. Looked great! Jim Link to comment
Kraynak
Nice Jim, did you do it your self? I didn't know they sell that in an aerosol. If you did it your self how did you prep the metal? Link to comment
OoPEZoO
Oh yeah, hit up the local hardware store and find the paint isle. It's usually down on the end all by itself next to the plasti-dip and garage floor coatings, but they should have it. Prep it just like any other painted surface......little bit of light grit sand paper to rough it up, clean everything real good, and hit it with a couple of coats. The further away you spray from, the more of a textured finish you will end up with. Guys on my Jeep message board have been going nuts with this stuff painting bumpers, fenders, grills, and other random pieces parts. Link to comment

Duplicolor bedliner paint. It is tough, but doesn't have any grit, so is fairly smooth with just a slight marbling effect. No special prep, just a scotchbrite pad, and a quick swipe with acetone. Matts_12GS
Is it a thick paint or is it like the rubber coating/spray on bedliner stuff? Link to comment
lvnvbiker
I'm going to do mine here soon, as the factory greenish grey that mine are is just plain ugly IMO. I was, until I got laid off, thinking about getting all the painted or otherwise easily removed parts like beak, fenders, tank and such wrapped in desert cammo at a place here in Vegas that does the vinyl wrap on cars and busses. I though about doing the Rhino liner, but I have done that before and it is pretty thick. Super tough and durable, but it adds at least a 32nd if not a 16th of an inch to whatever you coat. Not a big deal unless the panels are snugly fitted to start with. Link to comment
Jim VonBaden
Is it a thick paint or is it like the rubber coating/spray on bedliner stuff? It is really a thick paint with a rubbery texture. It will hide very minor paint scratches like regular paint will not. But it isn't very thick, maybe a 1/16 of an inch at most with three coats. I have used it for all kinds of things, including K-bike saddle bags, and am about to paint my R1200ST saddle bags with it. I'll post how it turns out. Jim Link to comment
lvnvbiker
Hey Jim, how well do you think it would hold up on the inside of a set of Zegas? That stuff seems thinner than the stuff I used, I am wondering if it bonds as well without some super special prep to do aluminum. Link to comment

It has actually been done before to good results. Jim Link to comment
