r77toy
Who has the best price on oilhead air filters? Link to comment
skinny_tom (aka boney)
Don't know about the best price. Take a peek at Beemer Boneyard as they usually have good prices of OEM non-badged BMW stuff sorted in packages by service requirements. Link to comment
g_frey
Also remember that air filters can be reused once or twice by blowing air backwards throught them and then hand washing with a mild soap and hot water with a follow up backwards air blowing followed by an overnight dry. I know this is heresy but my pickup with 289,000 miles on it seemed to have no problem with this technique, nor my 1150 with 80,000 plus, etc. etc.. I have done this for 40 years now Link to comment
NonComp
You have to be careful that you don't blow holes in the paper. If you get the paper wet, it may not have the same filtration or air passage properties as it did before it got washed. And K&N explicitly forbid you to blow air through their filters, because it will open up holes. I do this with my lawn mower all the time. Link to comment
Dave Faria
I'm a preferred Amsoil customer. I think the preferred status costs $10/yr. With the way prices are going up I bought 5 mann filters for my 2004 R1150RT for $9.90 each plus shipping. The mann filter number is C1552. They look indentical to tne BMW filter. I just installed my last BMW filter so I can't compare by measuring but, I believe they are the same. Link to comment
r77toy
Amsoil sells Mann filters? That's something to consider. Link to comment
Jerry Duke
I like the reusable filters, K&N, whatever. Not for the performance gains that they advertise but because once you buy one, you just clean it once or twice a year and you're good to go. Link to comment
Peter Parts
I can't think of any respect in which a DIY sticky foam filter isn't better than oily gauze or paper. 'Been making them for many years from the $20 kit sold by Uni Filter. I have a write-up for the R1100S filter with air flow measurements comparing stock, K&N, and foam. Other bikes can be different, as the write-up explains. See below. Link to comment
NoHeat
Amsoil sells Mann filters? That's something to consider. http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/mann.aspx The list price for the C1552 is $13.32. Here's another source: http://cfpfilters.com/store/mann_filters_c1552.html (not an endorsement and I've never done business with them) Link to comment
NoHeat
I found another list of equivalent filters. Try visiting this page http://www.mannol.de/Catalogue/Filter_SCT/188.html using Internet Explorer (not Firefox), and clicking "Reference No." to generate a list of equivalent filter part numbers. Here's what I get: CHAMPION: V 302 ELOFIC: EXA-1073 KNECHT (MAHLE): LX 578 MANN-FILTER: C 1552 ORTURBO: PH 148.88 SOFIMA: S 3094 A U.F.I.: 30.094.00 UNICO: AE 1488 Here's a table that says the Champion V302 air filter (luftfilter) works for the R1100RT: http://hs-motoparts.com/images/pdf/championZuordnungsliste.pdf Link to comment
