Our backyard

First thought of putting this in the "your backyard" thread in the ride tales section, but this is not really a ride tale as we live in the middle of it. It is our house and lot/garden. When we bought the lot (3 acres) in 1991 it was a abandoned ex-cornfield. All the gardening is done by my dear wife Maria, who really has a green thumb, and is passionate about it. Our house is the last design work of Maria, who is a architect. The pictures were taken over the years, not all at the same time.

BRAVO MARIA, beautiful home and gardens, pat on the back for Paul :)

That garden shows the love and attention of a dedicated gardener for sure!

That's really beautiful, Paul. You have a lot to be grateful for.

Perfectly stated. Nothing more to add.

Thanks for sharing!

Wow. A long way from WWII Austria, eh?

Let's face it, we're among the most blessed people who ever walked the planet. Great Kings of the past never knew the greatness of life we take for granted everyday.

Here's to a great life lived, Paul. You certainly earned it

I love your digs Paul. The first pic is my favorite. i love the angles and levels your wife designed. I read Dwell magazine every month and your design is similar to other quoted designs in the magazine.

2nd favorite pic is your wife gardening. Apparently gardening and you have made her a very happy person. Thanks!

Really beautiful, Paul. You (your wife?) have a great sense of proportion and have really done a great job of incorporating an interesting architectural design into a beautiful landscape.

What a beautiful place to come home to.

Such a lovely partner to share it with.

With all your miles on the road, and all the places you've been, I'll wager the biggest smile maker is when you get to your own driveway.

Best wishes.

...wHAT tIME do you want us all to come over, Paul...? =8^)

Any time you want. Just bring your shovel and pickaxe to help Maria with some of the heavier stuff. I'm getting a bit old for it  .

The good part of our "rural Shangri-la" is that it is 1 mile from I70, 5 miles from Walmart/Home Depot/Supermarket, and half hour from Baltimore/one hour from D.C., but all the lots around us are 3 acre+ by regulation, so nobody is looking in at our windows.

Great pictures, well done. I have to ask, how much time does Maria spend in the yard? I have a half acre and I spend 20-30 hours a week mowing, watering and maintain flowers and garden. Three acres must take alot of time. You and your wife do a great job. :)

Out of the three acres we left over a acre to grow wild. It is a certified Wild Life Habitat. We see fox, coyote, turkeys, rabbits, squirrels visiting. Deer had babies on our lot. We love deer when they are not on the road or eating Maria's plants. I do the mowing with a nice zero-turn machine. It is still a full time job for her.
