RT Synthetic transmission oil at 6K?

sideways

Recommended Posts

I know I've read remarks on the board about synthetic transmission fluid and when it should be used, but I get all the wrong threads in my attempts at searches.

Tomorrow my 12 RT goes in for the 6000 mile warranty check. I know the consensus is that this mileage is too early to begin using synthitic oil, but is it also too early to go to synthetic transmission fluid?

If so, is there some generally agreed upon mileage range to switch to synthetics in the gear box?

Muchas Gracias, amigos!

Go ahead and toss it in there. Transmissions are not like motors. Yours has done all the breaking in its gonna in the 6K miles.

My preference is Mobil 1 full synthetic 75w140 but the BMW stuff of the same weight is pretty good as well.

Ed & Allen,

Thanks for the quick response. Glad to say that the RT tranny is smoothing out with miles, and thanks in considerable part to Ed's tips on shifting, I'm smoothing out with it. Maybe the synthetic lube around the cogs will help even a bit more! thumbsup.gif
