I just exchanged e-mails with a supplier asking for the status of an order; I sen the e-mail with just a question mark "?".

He replied with an exclamation "!".

I laugherd, because I know that two individuals of some renoun exchanged letters like that, but I can't remember who they were, and I though it was refreshing that somone had that bit in mind so readily.

I'm sure someone here will have the answer.

The shortest correspondence in history is between Hugo and his publisher Hurst & Blackett in 1862. It is said Hugo was on vacation when Les Misérables (which is over 1200 pages) was published. He telegraphed the single-character message '?' to his publisher, who replied with a single '!'.

He wasn't as happy as you might expect.

Cool Dude

Over 1000 musical compositions were written and based on his works. When he died, over 2 Million people were in the funeral precession.

2 Million? I never knew any of this until reading these posts.

Many thanks to you geniuses!

During the late unpleasantness between the States, it is said that the Army of Northern Virginia believed the book was about them...
