04 1150rt. 19000 miles, when I shift down fron 6 to 5 to do a pass all seems good until 4 or 4500 rpm when the engine revs to red line and the bike doesn't excellerate, then if I shift in to 6 it does the same thing till I back off and roll on the throttle easily. I have always thought that the clutch didn't have much play, meaning that it didn't take ahold till the very end of the release. Has any one else had a clutch go bad this early. I really don't think that I ride the hard and have been on bikes for 20+ years and never had a problem like this. confused.gif

Lots of city driving and/or rear seal leaking oil onto clutch. Rear seal/clutch could be fixed under warranty.

You can do a visual on the clutch by removing starter but I'd talk to your dealer first.

squint your clutch actuation is hydraulic. It engages where it wants to. There is no engagement adjustment like a mechanical setup. I don't think this would be the issue. Probably oil of some sort, or your just hard on the clutch. If you've ridden other bikes you may have some habits that aren't good for the RT clutch. These clutches aren't known as being bullet proof or made for fast starts, but the do well if you respect it. I ride pretty hard and now have 47K on mine, no issues related to my riding habits. Sounds like oil leak. Good luck

I'm hoping oil, I don't do hard starts and it hasn't been abused. I messed with it a little this evening in 2nd and 3rd I pulled the front brake while rolling on the throttle a little and it didn't seem to slip and even bogged the engine down like it should. I only did it a couple of times thinking that I might be on borrowed time as it is. frown.gif

This is the classic symptoms of an oil contaminated clutch plate, usually caused by a failed transmission rear input shaft seal. Although I think this is the first I've heard of it on an '04.

Still, '04 + in warranty = let the dealer fix it.

You are a lucky dog. thumbsup.gif You have warranty. I have had this happen on two bikes without and boy does it hurt when it comes out of your own poket.

Yes, you are fortunate. Saves you $910 to be exact (based on my experience)! Ron

I played around with it this morning and then coming in to work tonite and could get it to replicate the problem. But as soon as I can get it to the dealer I'll let them decide and atleast it will be documented. confused.gif
