Brakes Pulsed...

It's an '07, non-servo system w/ABS on an RT.

The front brakes pulsed. I was told it was warped rotors and it's a known issue w/ a service bulletin out.

I took it in. Dealer confirmed warped rotors. Rotors were replaced under warranty. I had been told brake pads should also be replaced, but this was not done. Now brakes don't pulse, but they vibrate. Is this from the pads, or maybe the wheel is now out of balance? What do ya'll think?

Does anyone know what the service bulletin actually says? Curious 'cause I want to know if they were supposed to replace the brake pads, and also 'cause I got a lecture from the tech blaming me for the problem for overbraking/overheating/poor riding.

Thanks!

You need new pads. The pads you have need to be replaced as soon as possible, IMO.

I'd have words with the principle/Svc. Mgr. powers that be about some a&(hat that has the gall to tell someone that their poor riding ability caused a problem that is well established as being an issue that is covered via warranty.

I know, I know, I'm spoiled as I have a dealer who gets it. Still, even if they won't replace the pads for you, WHICH THEY SHOULD, get a new set as soon as possible. Also, try getting some Brake Kleen or similar and spray down a rag really well and wipe down the rotors to remove above A&%hat techs grease he may have left behind on rotors when installing the new rotors.

I would discuss specifically with Svc. Mgr. why a bike with XX,XXXX worth of miles on the stock set of pads has a new set of rotors placed on without a new set of pads as well.

Don't know what the service bulletin says, but tell the tech-punk to go to hell!

Bike rotors shouldn't warp, no matter how you ride period! It's been a known issue for many years now. And the pads should be replaced too.

Doesn't he know who you are?

Oh yea, and remember the MOST important part of the brakes is the proper bedding in of the rotors to the NEW pads. Easy braking with intermittent heat/cool cycles and then a couple full on hard stops to set the resins in the pads. This should take a hundred miles or so to do properly. Just make sure you are getting plenty of cooling in between heating to not overheat the system during this phase. Cooling should be done while riding and not while stationery.

They aren't the stock pads. I replaced them before Bib Bend.

Swing by Vegas on your way to Torrey Jan. I have a new set of Carbone Lorrains on the shelf and plenty of brakeclean and fine sanding disks in stock. I'd be happy to help out for the cost of the pads and help smoosing the wife into either coming or letting me go...
